Located northwest of Horsens, Våbensholms is first mentioned in 1432 when Terkel Pedersen owned the manor. In 1670 the nobleman Jacob Ulfeld was the owner. However, after his death in 1688 it became property of the Danish king as Ulfeld was punished for mistreatment of his wife. Later, in 1798, the manor became part the entailed estate Mattrup, and in 1856 Mattrup and Våbensholm merged into a single estate, which it still is to this day.
